Oslo - Norway's Capital City

Fjords - UNESCO World Herritage Sites
Bryggen - Bergen’s 900-Year Old Wharf
Discover the unforgettable scenery and fascinating history & culture of Norway in the summertime on a WalkEurope small-group tour.
We'll start in spectacular Oslo, seeing and getting to know Norway's capital and largest city... take the scenic Bergen Railway from Oslo to Bergen, staying two nights in the small picturesque village of Flåm in Norway's dramatic fjord region... and end the fabulous week in Bergen, the historic and colorful former Viking coastal trading city in Western Norway.

It's a terrific week of exploring and experiencing the best of Norway!
You'll be met at Oslo's airport by a private driver and transported to our city-center hotel where we'll stay our first two nights.
Sunday evening will be a welcome reception to meet other tour guests and review the week's itinerary.
Monday morning, after a hearty Norwegian breakfast at our hotel, we'll meet our local Oslo private guide who will lead us on a full-day city tour visiting Oslo's top sights, including -- The Royal Palace; Akershus Fortress; the city’s main street Karl Johans gate; Oslo Cathedral; The Vigeland Park, one of the major Scandinavian cultural treasures, and the world’s largest sculpture park dedicated to a single artist: Gustav Vigeland; Folk Museum; Fram Museum, with what was once the strongest wooden ship in the world; and the Viking Ship Museum, hosting thousand year old archaeological finds, along with the world-renowned complete Osberg ship.

We'll stop for lunch at the Mathallen, Oslo's indoor food hall where we'll witness and experience Norwegian food culture, enjoying local culinary specialties and beverages.

Late afternoon will be free personal time to explore Oslo on your own or relax at an outdoor cafe.
Tuesday is travel day. We'll board the famous Bergen Railway for a 4-1/2 hour, approx 200-mile, ride from Oslo to Myrdal, cruising through one of Europe's most picturesque landscapes. In Myrdal, we'll board a cogwheel train to Flåm on the Flåm Railway. This scenic 12-mile route between Myrdal and Flåm is one of the steepest non-rack railway tracks in the world and that provides some of Norway's most magnificent scenery.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights we'll stay in Flam.
Wednesday, from Flåm we'll take a stunning fjord safari day trip by RIB, a highly maneuverable boat that will navigate us through the majestic Aurlandsfjord and the Naeroyfjord, bringing us up close to small villages and waterfalls. We'll take in the majestic scenery and learn about local history and tales from this spectacular area. We'll visit a goat cheese farm in the Aurlandsfjord where we'll be treated to a slow-cooked Norwegian lunch at the mountain farm before returning to the inner harbor of Flåm.

Thursday, we are on our way to Bergen where we'll stay the last two nights. In Bergen we'll stroll by foot with our private local guide through the old wharf area known as Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll visit the town's traditional fish market, a lively and picturesque area where the local catch has been traded for over 800 years. We'll see the small wooden houses from the 18th and 19th century, tucked away on charming streets and narrow alleyways, and we'll enjoy a round-trip ride on the Floibanen Funicular Railway to the top of Mount Floyen, offering magnificent views of the city below... plus much more.

Friday evening we'll have a farewell gala dinner with traditional Norwegian cuisine.

Saturday after breakfast we'll say our goodbyes and be on our way to onward destinations.
