The 3-Countries Scandinavia Discovery Tour is a very special small-group tour learning about the fascinating histories, traditions and cultures of three neighboring Scandinavian countries... seeing stunning scenery... and engaging with local citizens.
We'll start in elegant Copenhagen, Denmark's capital city, where we'll spend two days learning about Copenhagen’s evolution from a fishing village to the capital of the Danish Empire... topics ranging from The Viking Age to the Danish Royal Family and the history of the monarchy to the country's present-day politics.

Sunday evening will be a welcome dinner to meet other tour guests and review the week's itinerary.
Monday we'll have a walking tour through Copenhagen's bicyle-buzzing city center with our local historian guide as we seeing and learning about sites important to Copenhagen's colorful past, to include the exterior of Amalienborg, Rosenborg Castle and The Round Tower. Our route will take us to Nyhavn, the 17th-century harbor that is considered one of the main reasons Copenhagen has evolved into a significant European city. ​We'll take an afternoon boat ride in Nyhavn Harbor and see Copenhagen's stunning and diverse architecture from the water, plus see the city's iconic The Little Mermaid sculpture.
​
​Tuesday we'll take a day trip excursion to visit the 16th-century Kronborg Castle, immortalized in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, that is now an UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch we'll visit Frederiksborg Palace – the "Versailles of Denmark." The palace, with its spectacular Renaissance castle and elaborate Baroque gardens, is the largest Renaissance building in Scandinavia.

Evenings will be free personal time fo... relaxing at a waterfront cafe... having delicious Danish cuisine meals... or visiting Tivoli Gardens. Tivoli Gardens is Copenhagen's famous amusement park, located in the city-center, that combines manicured gardens and roller coasters. The amusement park has been attracting visitors since the 19th-century, making it the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world.
​Wednesday morning we'll board a train traveling 1st-class on a 5-1/2 hour ride from Copenhagan's Central Station traveling through northern Denmark and southern Sweden to arrive in Stockholm that will be our base for the next three nights. After checkimg into our hotel we'll take a harbor boat ride to see the city from the water.
​
Thursday morning we'll meet up with our local Swedish historian guide ​for a walking tour seeing sites top sites of the capital city - City Hall, Opera House, Parliament, and the Royal Palace, the home of the Sweden's royals... and learning about the story of Stockholm, touching on the socio-political factors that have shaped Sweden for centuries.​Our walk will be concentrated in the historical city center, where we’ll view the cityscape with a lens to understand how the country's monarchical legacy has molded Swedish culture and society.
​
We'll encounter stories along the way about the members of the Bernadotte dynasty, whose descendants still serve as symbolic figureheads for Sweden today. We’ll make our way to the Kungliga Slottet: the Royal Palace. We’ll enter the magnificent stone castle complex and walk the same halls trod by Scandinavian royalty, discovering the antiquities and accouterments of centuries of northern wealth and splendor.

And we'll visit the Vasa Museum, to see and learn about the salvaged and perserved 17th-century Vasa warship.
Friday we'll take a morning ferry ride to one of Stockholm's nearly 30,000 islands (both inhabited and untouched) where residents live and commute to central Stockholm... and where they have summer cottages. We'll spend the day seeing Sweden archipelago beauty and experience the local, more quiter, Swedish life surrondings.

Friday evening we'll be back in Stockholm to have a farewell gala dinner with traditional Swedish cuisine.
​
Saturday we'll board a high-speed train traveling 1st-class from Stockholm to Norway , where we'll discover the unforgettable scenery and fascinating history & culture of Norway.
We'll start in spectacular Oslo, seeing and getting to know Norway's capital and largest city... take the scenic Bergen Railway from Oslo to Bergen, staying two nights in the small picturesque village of Flåm in Norway's dramatic fjord region... and end the fabulous week in Bergen, the historic and colorful former Viking coastal trading city in Western Norway.

It's a terrific week of exploring and experiencing the best of Norway!
We'll stay iour first two nights at the historic and luxurious Hotel Continental, a Leading Hotels Of The World® property, located in the heart of central Oslo.
Sunday evening will be a welcome dinner to meet other tour guests and review the week's itinerary.
Monday, after a hearty Norwegian breakfast at our hotel, we'll meet our local Oslo private guide who will lead us on a full-day city tour visiting Oslo's top sights, including -- Oslo City Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held; The Royal Palace; Akershus Fortress; the city’s main street Karl Johans gate; Oslo Cathedral; Vigeland Park, one of the major Scandinavian cultural treasures with the world’s largest sculpture park dedicated to a single artist: Gustav Vigeland; Holmenkollen Ski Jump; Folk Museum; and to the Fram Museum, with what was once the strongest wooden ship in the world.
Tuesday is travel day. We'll board the famous Bergen Railway for a 4-1/2 hour, approx 200-mile, ride from Oslo to Myrdal, cruising through one of Europe's most picturesque landscapes. In Myrdal, we'll board a cogwheel train to Flåm on the Flåm Railway. This scenic 12-mile route between Myrdal and Flåm is one of the steepest non-rack railway tracks in the world and that provides some of Norway's most magnificent scenery.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights we'll stay in Flåm in a small & intimate Norweigen bryggerihotellet (brew house hotel) with a distinctive style - both traditional and rustic, but modern style with Norwegian woodwork, driftwood, stone and glass, ideally located by Flåm's harbor.
Wednesday, from Flåm we'll take a stunning fjord safari day trip by RIB (rubber inflated boat,) a highly maneuverable boat that will navigate us through the majestic Aurlandsfjord and the Naeroyfjord, bringing us up close to small villages and waterfalls. We'll take in the stunning scenery and learn about local Norwegian history and tales from this spectacular area.

Thursday, we are on our way to Bergen, Norway's 2nd largest city, where we'll stay the last two nights. We'll stay in Bergen Børs Hotel, Set in the glorious 19th-century Renaissance Revival building that once housed Bergen’s former stock exchange
In Bergen we'll stroll by foot with our private local guide through the old wharf area known as Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll visit the town's traditional fish market, a lively and picturesque area where the local catch has been traded for over 800 years. We'll see the small wooden houses from the 18th and 19th century, tucked away on charming streets and narrow alleyways, and we'll enjoy a round-trip ride on the Floibanen Funicular Railway to the top of Mount Floyen, offering magnificent views of the city below... plus much more.

Friday evening we'll have a farewell gala dinner with traditional Norwegian cuisine.
