The Best of Denmark & Sweden Discovery Tour is an intimate small-group journey created to immerse you in the captivating histories, traditions, and cultures of two neighboring Scandinavian nations. Throughout the tour, you’ll experience dramatic landscapes, explore world-class heritage sites, and connect with local experts and residents for meaningful cultural insight.

Our adventure begins in Copenhagen, Denmark’s elegant capital, where we’ll spend two days tracing the city’s evolution from a modest fishing village to the center of a powerful European monarchy. Our explorations will spotlight the Viking Age, the Danish Royal Family, and the development of Denmark’s political and royal institutions.

We’ll spend our first three nights at the 71 Nyhavn Hotel, a stylish Scandinavian boutique property with understated elegance and an exceptional waterfront location. Once a historic warehouse, the hotel now offers refined comfort beside the iconic Nyhavn Harbor.

On Sunday evening, we’ll gather for a welcoming Danish dinner - an opportunity to meet fellow travelers and preview the memorable journey ahead.

Monday features a guided walking tour through Copenhagen’s historic center led by a local historian. We’ll explore key sites from the city’s colorful past, including the exteriors of Amalienborg Palace, Rosenborg Castle, and the Round Tower. Our walk continues to Nyhavn, the 17th-century harbor that played a pivotal role in Copenhagen’s rise as a major European port. In the afternoon, we’ll enjoy a scenic canal cruise, admiring the city’s architectural contrasts and viewing the beloved Little Mermaid statue from the water.

On Tuesday, we venture beyond the city for a day of grand architecture and dramatic history. Our first stop is Kronborg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famously known as Elsinore in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. After lunch, we’ll visit Frederiksborg Palace, often called the “Versailles of Denmark,” the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia, set amid beautifully designed Baroque gardens.

Evenings in Copenhagen are yours to enjoy at leisure—perhaps relaxing at a harbor-side café, sampling Denmark’s celebrated cuisine, or visiting Tivoli Gardens, the world’s second-oldest amusement park and a magical blend of gardens, culture, and classic rides in the heart of the city.

On Wednesday morning, we board a first-class train for a scenic 5½-hour journey from Copenhagen to Stockholm, passing through northern Denmark and southern Sweden. Upon arrival, we’ll check into the Grand Hotel Stockholm, a luxurious waterfront property and member of the Leading Hotels of the World®. We’ll begin our time in Sweden with a tranquil harbor cruise, offering beautiful views of Stockholm’s waterways and skyline.

Thursday starts with a walking tour led by a local Swedish historian. We’ll explore Stockholm’s most important landmarks, including City Hall, Parliament, the Royal Opera House, and Kungliga Slottet, the Royal Palace. In Gamla Stan, the city’s medieval Old Town, we’ll delve into Sweden’s monarchy, cultural identity, and political evolution, including stories of the Bernadotte Dynasty, whose descendants still serve as Sweden’s ceremonial heads of state. We’ll also visit the exceptional Vasa Museum, home to the fully restored 17th-century warship—one of the world’s most remarkable maritime artifacts.

On Friday, we’ll journey by ferry into the Stockholm Archipelago, a breathtaking collection of nearly 30,000 islands ranging from wild and forested to charming and inhabited. The day is devoted to experiencing the peaceful rhythm of rural Swedish life and the region’s striking natural beauty.

Our journey concludes on Friday evening with a festive farewell gala dinner featuring traditional Swedish cuisine—a fitting and memorable finale to our Scandinavian discovery.
