Normandy Timbered Buildings

Honfleur's Majestic Vieux-Bassin

Mont Saint Michele.jpg

Mont Saint-Michel Abbey

Paint in the footprints of French impressionist masters... Claude Monet... Camille Pissarro... Édouard Manet... Eugène Boudin!

Whether you are a seasoned artist... or you have never painted before and have always wanted to learn... join award winning artist and instructor Cynthia Rosen for a wonderful week in France in June capturing the breathtaking Normandy countryside and colorful sea coast painting en plein air.

Each day we'll feed our creative souls. There will be daily painting sessions, individual instruction and demonstrations by Cynthia which will improve your skills and expand your art experience. Seasoned artists are free to be on their own to paint and enjoy.

Artists can work in the medium of their choice or enhance their palette knife skills in oils or acrylics.

We’ll be based for our first four-nights in picturesque Honfleur, staying in a luxury boutique hotel. Honfleur is a charming medieval Normandy sea coast town with narrow cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, where the Seine River meets the English Channel.

On the way from Paris to Honfleur we'll stop to visit and take photos of Claude Monet's home & garden in Giverny where Monet painted his famous water lilies paintings... and we'll stop at Rouen Cathedral where Monet painted the cathedral over 30 times.

In Honfleur we'll paint where many famous artists including Monet and Honfleur native son Eugène Boudin painted... painting the colorful 16th-18th century townhouses that line Honfleur's majestic Vieux-Bassin (old harbor) with the array of boats.

From Honfeur we'll take a day trip north to the charming resort town of Etretat for a memorable day of painting on the beach where Monet painted the white chalk cliffs that tower high over the Atlantic Ocean.

Mid-week we'll head west to historic Bayeux where we'll be based for two nights, staying in a lovely French château on a beautiful countryside estate. Bayeux, the capital of Normandy's Bessin district, has an extraordinary heritage with a pictureque old town dating from medieval times that has been miraculously preserved. Located in the old town is  Bayeux Cathedral, a jewel of medieval architecture, and The Bayeux Tapestry, the nearly 70 meter famous tapestry that illustrates the events of the conquest of England by the Duke of Normandy in 1066. The history of Bayeux is closely tied to two conquests – the 1066 conquest of England by the Normans, and the 1944 Allied invasion of the beaches of Normandy that saw Bayeux to be the first town in France to be liberated.

We'll paint in Bayeux and the nearby countryside... and we'll take a day trip to paint magnificent Mont Saint-Michel, the UNESCO World Heritage site.

There will be free time for those who would like to tour Mont Saint-Michel Abbey... and time to join an optional guided tour with a local historian to see the WWII D-Day battleground beaches and visit the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial.

Plus there will be free time for additional individual painting... visiting the Eugène Boudin Museum in Honfleur... seeing The Bayoux Tapestry... exploring village shops and galleries... and relaxing at outdoor cafes.

Optional before breakfast group pleasure walks are organized for travelers who want some morning exercise before starting their day.

Non-painter friends and spouses of artists are invited to join the trip at a reduced cost.

The trip will be part of your life's treasured memories!
