Breakfast was in Bar Raspa in Cortes de la Frontera, which, even at eight in the morning , was full of local worthies having their first brandy of the day. "Nobody in Andalucia," Hugh asserted, "not even the local policeman, would dream of starting the day without a glass of cognac"

After taking our snifter, we walked through the village, past the beautiful 18 th -century town hall and up over pastures that glowed like an impressionist's palette. The late rains had produced a cornucopia of wild flowers scattered like jewels in grass greener than any you have ever seen.

Walking In Andalucia: The Camino to Ronda : The Arcos Camino

You visit Arcos de la Frontera and Jerez with a private tour of a Sherry Bodega and watch the superb show of Andalucian horses.

The walking journey starts at Arcos and finishes 6 days later at Almuña. You walk in massive limestone sierra and open farmland lunching with a local family en route to the remote village of Algar . We team up with Roque and his mules which accompany us through dramatic sandstone country alongside gushing streams choked with rhododendrons and arbutus into the interior of a forest of huge cork oaks, out of sight and sound of modern life.

The first 3 nights are at an 18th century fortified family-run farmhouse on a private estate.   followed by 2 nights in a comfortable and remote village hotel and finally the last 2 nights at Almuña.

The first 3 days you spend at the delightful town of Sanlucar de Barrameda at the mouth of the Guadalquivir river. Bird expert, Ian Grier is with you for the week and with him you visit the Coto Doñana - one of Europe’s major wetlands - and salt marshes of the river,  all rich in bird life.  You explore Arcos de la Frontera before you start the  walking journey to Almuña as described in the Arcos Walk above.

The first 2 nights are at  a special hotel, once the home of the Dukes of Medina Sidonia.  The next at an 18th century fortified family-run farmhouse on a private estate followed by 2 nights in a comfortable and remote village hotel and finally the last 2 nights at Almuña
